The Video Revolution: The Importance of Video in Today's World of Retail and E-tail

Session Description

In her session, Ruth will talk about how video can be used by retailers to help promote products. She'll provide ideas for types of videos, whether to make your own or hire a professional, how to feel camera-confident and tips & tricks for filming jewellery.

Ruth DuggalBio:

Ruth Duggal helps businesses succeed with video. For almost 20 years she's been working with businesses to help them reach customers through video storytelling. After starting in television, she moved to the world of brand communications and has produced videos for an impressive list of clients including Crockett and Jones, Vodafone, Sony, Polar and Sally Hair & Beauty. She is currently Head of Production at GASP Creative - a video marketing agency specialising in luxury, lifestyle and wellbeing - and she has recently co-founded Make Your Own Video Training Academy, teaching business owners how to make their own videos for web and social media using mobile devices. Through the academy she runs workshops and is co-author of the handbook, Make Your Own Videos.

Ruth has also dabbled in jewellery making herself. From a young age she has been an enthusiastic hobbyist, making and selling jewellery to teachers and school friends. In 2004 she briefly ran a jewellery business making bespoke glass jewellery pieces before being lured back to video production.

The session is designed to highlight why having a customer-centric culture is important and what those who succeed (and fail) do. Jerry will share a few case studies and frameworks to provoke thought about what you can do back at the office to ensure your customers’ experiences are the ones they want to repeat, pay more for and tell others about.


Jerry Angrave is managing director of Empathyce, a customer experience management training and consulting company.

Having worked in the UK and in New Zealand, Jerry’s helped companies in many sectors including aviation, utilities, financial services, pharmaceuticals and professional services to help improve their customer and employee experiences.

Jerry’s a Certified Customer Experience Professional (CCXP) and is one of just a handful of people globally who are accredited by the Customer Experience Professionals Association to train practitioners for the qualification. Jerry is also a judge at the UK Customer Experience Awards.

How to sell more jewellery using Facebook and Instagram 


Session Description

As a business, it’s important to ensure that you market your products and services to your target audience in a way that will make them want to engage with you and learn more. Social media is often used today as a key marketing platform for many, but the truth is that the most effective social strategies involve very little marketing.  In this session, we will look at two of the most important social networks – Facebook and Instagram. We will explore exactly how this sites work, how they determine who sees what content, how you can manipulate these algorithms to best serve your business, and most importantly how you can use these platforms to find potential customers and forge genuine relationships with them.  


This session will be delivered by David Glenwright, from award-winning agency JC Social Media. A trainer and strategist with over 6 years experience in social media, in 2017 David became one of only 8 trainers in the UK accredited directly by Facebook, as part of their “She Means Business” initiative. He makes regular appearances on TV and radio, commenting on social media in the news, and has recently been shortlisted in Enterprise Nation’s 2018 Top 50 Business Advisers.
