ROMA PEARSON - FCAs Senior Management Regime and The Pawnbroking Industry
 

Roma is the Head of Department, Primary Lending – Consumer Credit, Retail Lending Supervision at FCA. She has 20 years’ experience in financial services both in the industry and as a regulator. She has held a variety of roles in regulation, supervising firms of all sizes, managing supervisory teams in the Investment and Mortgages intermediaries sectors and project managed significant pieces of work relating to Treating Customers Fairly, Quality of Advice, Equity Release, RDR and Regulatory Reform. More recently she held management roles in the Sector teams including Retail Intermediaries, Mortgages and Consumer Credit. She is now in her third year of leading one of the Credit Supervision Departments. Roma is the Acting Head of Department, Consumer Credit, Retail Lending Supervision.  

STEPHEN ATKINS - A Compliance update for Pawnbrokers

Stephen is NPAs compliance advisor and has helped many pawnbrokers with the new FCA regime. He is a member of the Bank of England, PRA/FCA skilled persons panel for corporate governance, systems & controls, and risk. During his career he has carried out FSA enforcements and also defended firms against the FSA.  

JOHN THOMPSON - Keeping your account open

John Thompson, is Senior Policy Director, Head of Financial Crime Policy at the BBA.  John joined the Home Office in 2003 and during his time in the Home Office worked on a number of policy and operational roles related to immigration, organised crime and counter-terrorism.  He was most recently the Deputy Director of Migration Policy and prior to that was the Head of Criminal Finances and Head of Economic Crime Command Team in the Home Office

TOM SIMONSEN - EU Banking - Preparing for the worst

Tom has been CEO of Simbech D in Denmark for 11 years and is very experienced at developing business support in compliance matters and works with the Danish authorities and banks to find solutions for UK companies, whether MSBs or pawnbrokers. He has been helping NPA members who need to have a current account, and assuming compliance is achieved he has good relations with Danish banks which can be accessed online. He can also help set up Danish subsidiaries

JOE HIGGINSON - Trends in the Foreign Exchange Market

Joe is Head of Business Development for Travelex. He started his career in Financial Services in New Zealand and Australia and then moved to roles in money transfer and payment solutions in Europe. He now heads up Travelex Business Development which is the world’s largest ForEx specialist across 80 currencies. 

BEN CROSLAND - Anti-Counterfeiting Strategy

Ben is a senior manager in the Bank of England’s Notes Directorate. His team is responsible for maintaining confidence in the currency by engaging with businesses, the public and law enforcement regarding banknotes and combatting counterfeits. He is also leading the communications and education campaign for the Bank of England’s new polymer notes. Prior to joining the bank, Mr Crosland’s career in policy and communications has spanned the City, the Treasury and 10 Downing Street

SIMON JOHNSON - Retailing Jewellery

Simon is MD of Marmalade Fine Jewellery and also NAJ Chariman since 2016 and has won Independent Retailer of the Year and many other industry accolades. He has been in the jewellery trade all his working life
