Reed Expo, the organiser of JCK Tucson (31st January – 3rd February, 2018), is offering retail members of the NAJ three nights free accommodation during the fair – a curated showcase of high-end designer jewellery, plus gemstones, mountings and technology. Now in its fifth year, the event prides itself on the individuality and integrity of its exhibitors, with their ‘one-of-a-kind’ collections, and promises  “a  relaxing yet productive experiential environment for  business and networking”. The natural beauty of JCK Tucson’s surroundings, is a given.

Running in tandem with the exhibitor showcases, is a lineup of events with a focus on business. These include: the Fireside Chat series – informal, yet inspiring talks led by industry luminaries; the JCK Tucson Design Challenge – partnered with Uncommon Goods, Overstock.com and O, The Oprah Magazine – to award the designers with the most innovative and unique pieces at the show; Gems After Dark Industry Celebration – the industry unites to take in the beauty of sprawling, desert mountains for an evening filled with stargazing, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and great company. Co-hosted with Women’s Jewelry Association, American Gem Society’s Young Titleholders and Gen-Next. Other experiences to get in the Tucson state of mind include morning hikes, sunrise yoga, tequila toasts, stargazing and more.

Exhibitor Peter Schmid of Atelier Zobel, Germany, enthuses: “I am very happy to see how JCK has developed in Tucson. It’s really nice to see the group that is here. The quality of the buyers and designers is impressive and the relaxing setting to do business and meet with customers is refreshing.”

“The show has gotten better each year,” says Patricia Faber, Aaron Faber Gallery, New York. “Things that were once obstacles for buyers are no longer the case at JCK Tucson. I’ve met far more makers here and had the opportunity to take the time to talk to them and learn about their pieces more than any other show.”

The 120 or so JCK Tucson exhibitors are largely from the US, but 2018’s event will also include a number of designers from Germany, while the gemstone dealers are from Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Mayanmar. The timing of the trip will also give attendees the opportunity to visit other gem shows taking place in the city during the same period.
