British Hallmarking Council invites opinion on Platinum Jubilee marks

The Four UK Assay Offices have published two marks to commemorate the Queen’s platinum jubilee and are asking NAJ members and their customers their opinion.

The two Platinum Jubilee marks have been created by the British Hallmarking Council (BHC), made up of the four UK Assay Offices, and NAJ members are invited to express their opinion on the marks, as well also run polls with their customers and report back to the Council.

The two marks are:

Assay-NAJ

Option A - Orb with lettering

Key Features:

  • Looks good when small mark, i.e. 0.75mm and above
  • Different design concept than previous royal commemorative marks
  • Distinguished from platinum traditional mark as there is no shield
  • Lettering makes it clear what occasion is being celebrate

Option B - Queen’s head

Key Features:

  • Detail lost when small mark (NB final designed to be optimised)
  • Consistent with previous royal commemorative marks but distinguished because queen pointing the other way

The National Association is running a live poll on Instagram of the two designs, that jewellers can share with their customers.
