The Jeweller editor, Belinda Morris, introduces Solange Azagury-Partridge.

On Tuesday morning we hosted the third webinar in a series taking us into the life (and homes) of renowned jewellery designers. With a dedicated fan-base across the world, Solange Azagury-Partridge talked about her brand, Solange, and in particular her ‘Chromance’.

As the word – the name of one of her collections – suggests, Solange’s career in jewellery design (as well as her personal life) has revolved around her love of colour. To walk into her London boutique is to be enveloped by luscious a combination of colour and texture – greens and pinks in particular.

Beginning at the beginning, Solange describes how she found herself in the world of jewellery design; despite studying languages, it was her first job in a fashionable jewellery shop that gave her the initial bug and a taste for bright shiny things. Designing her own engagement ring cemented the desire to take the first of a few ‘leaps of faith’.

Learning about jewellery processes – in an ‘osmotic’ fashion – from the many craftspeople she has worked with since the early days, Solange has mastered the art of “marrying a technique with a concept”. Inspired by nature (in all its forms), different materials and gemstones, and with ideas gathered often from books unrelated to jewellery, her statement pieces range from the whimsically iconic to the truly fantastical.
