On Tuesday 14th April the NAJ hosted the first in its new series of webinars focusing on UK-based jewellery designers. We got the on-line event off to a dependably rollicking start with the inimitable, multi-award-winning Stephen Webster.

We asked Stephen to present his audience with a selection of jewellery pieces that represent his jewellery ‘journey’; to talk through the pieces that help to tell his story, that hold memories for him and have contributed towards making him a globally-renowned jewellery ‘name’.

And boy did he deliver! Around 80 people joined us for the fascinating and entertaining hour-long show-and-tell that frankly could have gone on for another hour as questions flew in thick and fast once the Q&A began.

Starting at the very beginning, Stephen gives us an insight into his (very) early years at art college, the life of an apprentice in Hatton Garden and then the unlikely setting for his first foot on the rung of his career in jewellery…. which saw him develop a love of gemstones.

From his very first client (Aunty Peg) to his first brush with the silver screen (I’ll let him tell you) he offers a snap shot of his celebrity fans, with images of the jewellery pieces that led them to discover him. One piece in particular, when it was picked up by a certain global superstar “changed his whole life”.

He explains how Russia played its part in his success, why collaborations interest him and his involvement in ‘giving back’ to the industry.

In short, Stephen Webster gives good chat – watch it now!
