Final booking opportunity for 2019 Conference as Fei Liu completes line up

19 Aug 2019

International award-winning designer Fei Liu was last week announced as the final plenary speaker for the popular annual event and will share insight on the processes involved in creating designer jewellery.

Taking place on the 14th to the 16th September at Loughborough University, the Conference titled ‘Adding Value to your Jewellery Journey’ offers attendees an informative and practical experience including presentations, workshops and excellent networking opportunities.

Fei Liu studied at the prestigious Birmingham School of Jewellery. In 2016, he founded eponymous brand Fei Liu Fine Jewellery. Liu’s designs are a marriage of his eastern heritage and western design. His portfolio of jewels is heavily influenced by the charms of nature; taking the intricate details and turning them into delicately sculpted and vividly coloured adornments. For his bespoke designs, the stones are specially handpicked and designed around the feature stones, which means that each design is individual to the wearer and cannot be reproduced.

Popular amongst valuers, event organisers have attempted to broaden conference appeal to attract other areas of the Jewellery community with the following headline presentations:

  • Steve Carson, Decades of Design: Jewellery of the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries
  • Rosamond Clayton, Jadeite Jade: Beyond Adornment
  • Kerry Gregory, An eBay experiment – Great Value Gems or Fraudsters’ Fun House?!
  • Harriet Kelsall, Creating Value
  • Stephen Whittaker, Don’t Quote Me on This!
  • Fei Liu, Me and My Designs

Frank Wood, Chair of the Association’s Professional & Technical Standards and IRV (PTSI) Steering Group said,

“We welcome everybody to this popular event, both from the UK jewellery industry and colleagues from around the world. One of the key components of the event is our range of workshops from lecture-based talks to the more practical hands-on sessions.”

Between talks and workshops and before the evening dinners, delegates will have time to visit exhibitors including sponsors Holt’s and Quantum Leap – Professional Appraisal Systems as well as enjoy the Gemstone Market. The Gem-A will offer attendees the opportunity to purchase books and instruments from selected suppliers, and gemstones will be available from selected dealers. The NAJ team are also onsite to give members support with building their web profiles on the Find a Jeweller and Find a Valuer directories.
